In an interview with “Bild” on Sunday, the German national soccer player emphasized that games without a spectator were “very bad”. “But since we have to struggle with Corona for a while, it’s better to have ghost games than no games at all,” said the 26-year-old.
In the fight for the German championship, which Can considers realistic for BVB, ghost games are of course no advantage for the Dortmund team. “But other teams are also in a good mood in their stadiums. That is not fair for anyone. We have to try to win our games, even if they are ghost games.”
Dortmund currently occupy second place in the Bundesliga table, four points behind the champions and defending champions FC Bayern Munich. RB Leipzig is third, one point behind BVB. “Of course it will be difficult, but we are still playing against Bayern and Leipzig. So we still have the direct rivals ahead of us. We have to win, ghost games shouldn’t be an excuse!” Said Can.
The German Football League wants to determine with the clubs next Thursday how the Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga will continue during the corona virus crisis. Professional football still hopes to be able to end the season with the help of ghost games by June 30.
