BRUSSELS (dpa-AFX) – NATO is arming itself with an emergency plan for a possible second wave of the corona pandemic. Defense ministers from the 30 member states decided on Thursday to stock up on medical equipment, General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg said. In addition, a multi-million dollar crisis fund is to be set up.
According to diplomats, it has not yet been finally decided where the stocks will be invested. In any case, they should contain material for intensive care units, respirators and protective masks. In an emergency, funds from the crisis fund could be used, for example, to organize the transportation of material, but also of patients suffering from Covid-19. They should also be able to buy medical equipment. / Aha / DP / fba
