Initially, only the north of the USA and Canada are to be supplied – from next year the whole world
Comment function at the CRTC: Many Canadians are positive about Starlink Internet
Starlink has a competitor with One Web Global Ltd – the new deadline is June 26, 2020
Musk’s plan: to offer high-speed Internet globally with Starlink from 2021
Elon Musk would like to offer Starlink High Speed Internet with its SpaceX program – on the Starlink website it says: “Starlink will offer high speed broadband Internet in regions where access was previously expensive or not possible at all. Starlink strives for service 2020 in the north of the United States and Canada, and a rapid, almost global expansion to the inhabited world by 2021. ”
To this end, Musk apparently requested the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to purchase Basic International Telecommunication Services (BITS) in May, according to The Globe and Mail, and requested a comment from the CRTC by the end of last week .
“Rural Canada currently has Third World Internet Access!”
The CRTC offers private individuals a comment function regarding the Starlink Internet. To date, a total of 1,832 comments have been posted (as of June 24, 2020), many of which are in favor of the Starlink Internet: One user of the function wrote that rural Canada “currently has third world Internet access” – “that makes us second in rank Great and disadvantaged my children “. Another user writes that the “technology gap” can finally be closed, a third user is of the opinion that Starlink is the only way, like “we, who have the opportunity to properly participate in an economy that is getting closer every day connected to the internet “.
Of course, these opinions are not representative of all of Canada as they are comments posted by individuals on a website – however, these comments may affect the CRTC’s decision to sell.
The deadline has been postponed – One Web Global Ltd would also like to buy the licenses
At the end of last week, when the CRTC was supposed to make its comment on Musk’s request, the deadline was postponed again: One Web Global Ltd, who like SpaceX launched spacecraft in the past year, wants to Buy licenses too. At the company’s request, the CRTC decision date was therefore postponed to June 26.
It remains to be seen what the Canadian telecommunications service decision will look like and whether a final decision will be made on June 26.
