The future always makes us curious, and sparks the imagination of all of us at some point. Whether cars fly, people can replace their organs with machines, time travel is possible, we have all dreamed of what tomorrow will be like. However, there are surprising cases in the present, such as the fact that Argentina is implementing educational robotics in primary schools in Buenos Aires.

Educational robotics in Argentina: it is a reality

Maybe you ever got to see The Jetsons, an old animated series about a futuristic family. In it, maybe you got to see robots teaching classes and you found it an attractive but remote possibility. Are we really that far from incorporating robots into our educational system? Argentina can give you an idea.

Educational Robotics and the opportunities that the future can offer attract us.

According to a recent report by InterAmerican Dialogue, Argentina analyzed the implementation and execution of the Robotics Plan in the Province of Buenos Aires. This organization is a public policy analysis center established in Washington D.C.

This Provincial Plan for Educational Robotics was established by Resolution 645 of the General Directorate of Culture and Education of the Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

However, this is still far from being a reflection of what we saw in the series. Perhaps it is not about having robots as teachers, but that does not mean that this Plan is not significant and worth replicating.

The report talks about the initiative and the challenges it represents. The Provincial Plan for Educational Robotics promotes the development of content and pedagogical and didactic resources for primary school children.

According to InterAmerican Dialogue, this plan is presented as a way to approach robotics in teaching. In addition, it seeks to show it as a contribution that in the future can be considered a universal strategy for the region.

“The proposed Robotics Plan is presented as a comprehensive strategy that goes from the acquisition and preparation of the material to working with the teacher in the classroom.”

What did the Plan include?

According to the InterAmerican Dialogue report, the exact purpose of the Provincial Plan is in the first instance “improve the low performance of primary students in basic subjects such as language and mathematics

To clarify, it was not about robots teaching classes, as we are still very far from this regionally. However, the focus of this provincial plan was to promote at the federal level the Priority Learning Centers in Digital Education, Programming and Robotics. In other words, make curricular updates.

Likewise, the report indicates that these modifications made it possible to modernize the content to be taught in schools. Also, these modifications institutionalized and prescribed progress in this regard. Thus, despite the challenges, the benefits of the Provincial Plan were evident according to the report.

Likewise, the development of content and pedagogical and didactic resources is discussed; Robotics training and workshop strategies in the classroom using robotics kits and programming with progressive Internet access.

What problems does it respond to?

With this program, Argentina aims to tackle the educational crisis that Latin America is facing. The objective is “harness the transformative power of technology to change the way children learn”, And thereby improve public education systems.

This would not be the first time in the world that the benefits of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have been explored. But, we reiterate that it is something worth looking at as it originated in the region. It undoubtedly has broad potential for the benefit of the future of education.

The sociocultural changes produced in more than a century require transformations that challenge the way in which the transmission of knowledge is organized.

From CriptoTendencia we advocate the exploration of alternatives and innovative solutions to the problems that afflict us in various types.
