When buying a car there is more to consider than the consumer may be aware of. In addition to the acquisition and fuel costs, other factors such as workshop and operating costs and also the loss in value must be included.
In order to create a corresponding cost transparency for the consumer, the ADAC has also made a car cost comparison for 2020. The total costs were determined in the small car category. For the cost calculation, the authors of the study assumed an annual mileage of 15,000 kilometers over a period of five years.
The total cost calculation was made taking into account the aspects of oil change, inspection, wearing parts, tires, fuel, insurance, vehicle tax and loss of value without interest.
10th place: Toyota Yaris 1.0 Comfort
The Toyota Yaris comes in tenth place in the cost ranking for small cars. The 75 hp petrol engine is available for a basic price of 16,190 euros. The fuel consumption is 4.6 liters per 100 kilometers. The total costs add up to 414 euros per month, which means costs of 33.1 cents per kilometer.
9th place: Renault Clio SCe 65 Life
The Renault Clio in ninth place costs 13,390 euros. The engine produces 65 HP and consumes 4.9 liters per 100 kilometers. The total cost is 414 euros per month. A value of 33.1 cents was determined for the kilometer costs.
8th place: Suzuki Swift 1.2 Dualjet Hybrid Club
The Suzuki Swift comes in eighth. For 15,670 euros, the consumer gets a 90 hp petrol engine with a consumption of 4.2 liters. The total monthly costs amount to 413 euros or 33 cents per kilometer.
7th place: Skoda Fabia 1.0 MPI Cool Plus
The 13,590 euro Skoda Fabia marks seventh place in the ranking. The fuel consumption of 5.9 liters per 100 kilometers is comparatively high, but the total cost of the 60 hp Skoda is only 411 euros per month. This results in kilometer costs of 32.9 cents.
6th place: KIA Rio 1.2 Attract
The 84 hp KIA Rio consumes 5.5 liters and comes in sixth with a basic price of 12,150 euros. The total costs amount to 410 euros per month or 32.8 cents per kilometer.
5th place: Citroen C3 PureTech 82 Live
The 83 hp Citroen C3 ranks fifth in the ranking due to its low consumption of 4.2 liters of petrol per 100 kilometers. Coupled with a basic price of 12,990 euros, the total costs are 403 euros per month or 32.2 cents per kilometer.
4th place: Peugeot 208 1.2 PureTech 75 Like
Fourth place goes to the Peugeot 208. With a motorization of 75 hp, it only consumes 4.1 liters per 100 kilometers. The basic price is set at 15,490 euros, however, comparatively high, nonetheless there are total costs of only 399 euros or 31.9 cents per kilometer.
3rd place: Nissan Micra IG-T 100 Visia
With 101 hp the Nissan Micra is the most motorized vehicle in this ranking, nevertheless the Nissan consumes only 4.5 liters per 100 kilometers. With a basic price of 12,990 euros, kilometer costs of 31.5 cents result, extrapolated to the month, resulting in total costs of 394 euros. This puts the Nissan in third place.
2nd place: Mitsubishi Space Star 1.0 Intro Edition
The second-placed Mitsubishi makes 71 hp and costs only 9,790 euros in the basic price. With a fuel consumption of 4.5 liters, the total cost is EUR 350 per month or 28 cents per kilometer.
1st place: Dacia Sandero SCe 75 Access
The 73 hp Dacia Sandero costs only 7,290 euros in the basic price. In combination with a fuel consumption of 4.9 liters, total costs of only 308 euros can be calculated. There are a mere 24.6 cents per kilometer for the Dacia. This makes the Sandero the cheapest vehicle among small cars.
