STUTTGART (dpa-AFX) – Despite the drastic increase in the number of corona cases and partial lockdowns in many countries, the car manufacturer Daimler does not see its new goals for 2020 in jeopardy so far. “The market is still running for us. But of course we are watching it very closely,” said CEO Ola Kllenius on Friday at a digital industry event of the “Handelsblatt”. Unlike in the spring, customers in the affected countries can currently pick up cars from dealers and register them. Should that change, one can react quickly. “But so far that has not been the case. We are, however, very vigilant,” said Kllenius.
In the third quarter, Daimler performed much more strongly than expected and then revised its targets for the full year upwards again – provided that there is no further corona wave with consequences like the one in spring.
Kllenius also emphasized that Mercedes-Benz would remain loyal to the compact class despite its stronger focus on the luxury segment. It is not planned to only offer cars from the C-Class upwards in the future. “We are staying in the compact segment. But we are looking for the positions in the compact segment that best correspond to the Mercedes brand promise,” said Kllenius. And of course it is also about focusing on the models with which an adequate return can be achieved./eni/DP/men
