Investigation: Stuttgart Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating Porsche because of fuel consumption | message
“We have initiated a preliminary investigation,” confirmed a spokeswoman for the Stuttgart public prosecutor’s office to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. It is not about diesel manipulation, for which management boards from the VW group have meanwhile also had to answer in criminal proceedings. This time it is about the fact that Porsche customers all over the world were deceived about the fuel consumption of their sports cars.
“There is a suspicion that, due to manipulation during certification measurements, vehicles of Porsche AG did not have an effective type approval, that buyers were deceived about the actual consumption and that there was indirect tax evasion,” said a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor of the FAZ . The investigators’ allegations relate to the years 2007 to 2017.
At the prosecutor’s office, no one was available for further comment at short notice.
A few weeks ago, the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) temporarily suspended the issuing of type approvals at Porsche after it had been informed about irregularities from the Stuttgart company. At a two-day on-site appointment, the KBA confirmed that the current production was not affected by irregularities.
“It’s about vehicles that are no longer in production today,” emphasized a Porsche spokesman to the FAZ – they are cooperating with the authorities. A spokesman for the company added on request that the proceedings had been opened against individual employees. “The proceedings relate to facts that are several years in the past. There are no corresponding proceedings against the company,” said the Porsche spokesman.
