Israel Tightens Corona Restrictions message

TEL AVIV (dpa-AFX) – After a significant increase in new corona infections, Israel tightened the restrictions on containing the virus on Monday. According to his office, the cabinet led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided that festival halls, bars, night clubs, public swimming pools and fitness studios should close until further notice.

The beach, religious schools and restaurants, on the other hand, should remain open. However, new restrictions should apply in restaurants: only up to 20 guests are allowed to sit inside and up to 30 are outside. Only up to 19 people may gather in prayer houses. The number of passengers on buses is to be limited to up to 20. The measures still have to be approved by Parliament.

Netanyahu had spoken on Sunday of an emergency and a “very strong outbreak” of the corona virus. He said on Monday: “The pandemic is spreading, that’s as clear as sun.” There are also more and more seriously ill people. “That’s why we need to take immediate steps to prevent us from having to take much more radical measures in the future.”

The number of new infections with the coronavirus in Israel had recently peaked. On Friday, the number of new infections exceeded the 1000 mark for the first time within 24 hours. Recently, there was a dramatic increase in new infections, particularly in strictly residential areas.

According to the Ministry of Health, the pathogen Sars-CoV-2 has been detected in 30 162 people in Israel; 332 infected people have died. In the West Bank, a five-day lockdown./le/DP/men has been in effect since Friday due to a similar new outbreak
